The best line of attack for Democrats against Trump

The way to hand Donald Trump a defeat

There are so many areas where Donald Trump and the Republicans are failing, breaking the law, possibly committing treason, or just plain crazy. These include, for example, kowtowing to Russia and ditching our friend Ukraine, voicing plans to take over Greenland for its minerals, pardoning the January 6 terrorists, trying to take over the independent U.S. Postal Service, and much more.

However, following some of these areas closely can require specialized knowledge of various fields, such as international relations or federal government operations. But there is one area of Trump failure that is so simple, anyone can understand it. Moreover, this one area affects all of us:

That area is the economy.

We have all seen the price of eggs skyrocket under Trump. One likely reason for this is that, as was the case with COVID, Trump is doing nothing on bird flu.

Then there is the tariffs rollercoaster. Most economists are stating the obvious: that Trump’s tariffs will lead to higher prices for U.S. purchasers of all kinds of products, from cars to appliances and even food. Even worse, every time Trump backs off of such tariff threats causes disruptions for shoppers and small business owners, as well as making Trump look like a chaos-ridden fool.

Add to that the mass firings of federal employees, many of them in crucial roles such as at the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), on which which millions of Americans rely for emergency information about hurricanes, tsunamis and other catastrophic weather events.

Moreover, the Atlanta district of the Federal Reserve is now predicting a contraction in our gross domestic product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2025. And to top things off, just two days ago, a very weak February private sector jobs report, coming in way below expectations, was published.

Not surprisingly, the stock markets have been trending down since Trump took office on January 20. This affects not just those on Main Street, but the Wall Street folks and corporate executives as well. Many of them are Republicans, and a lot of them no doubt are very unhappy with Donald Trump right now.

Accordingly, this is a great time for Democrats to remind U.S. voters that President Joe Biden handed off a fabulous economy to Donald Trump, and, as happened last time around, Trump has wrecked it. The 1992 line from Bill Clinton‘s successful presidential campaign still rings true:

It’s the economy, stupid.
