Elitist Dr. Oz is the new Mitt Romney

Latest attack on Dr. Oz

In the 2012 presidential election, Republican nominee Willard Mitt Romney inadvertently and repeatedly identified himself as Mr. Elitist/Moneybags/1%, and his Democratic opponent, President Barack Obama, quickly took advantage of the theme. The Obama campaign thus followed our Messaging Maxim #4: Feed the Narrative. Indeed, Romney fed this narrative himself, for example, by talking about his dressage horse Rafalca, revealing that his family travels by car with their dog strapped to the roof, and his infamous “WaWa’s” moment, where, getting the name wrong, Romney claimed to buy “hoagies” at gas station convenience stores. Needless to say, President Obama defeated Romney in a landslide.

Now, 10 years later, TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz is committing many of these same elitist reveals as the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. Here is a handy chart showing how Dr. Oz is the new Mitt Romney:

Willard Mitt Romney

Eats hoagies at “WaWa’s”

Dines at fancy French restaurants with Donald Trump

Called for Detroit to “go bankrupt”

Owns several mansions, one with a car elevator for his and his wife’s multiple cars;

Has offshore bank accounts in Switzerland, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

Tied dog to roof of car

Dr. Oz

Eats crudité from “Wegner’s” (which doesn’t exist)

Drinks red wine at football game tailgate parties

Isn’t even from Pennsylvania

Owns 10 houses

Kills puppies

As was the case with Romney in 2012, the Democratic opponent, here Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman, has been highlighting Dr. Oz’s out-of-touch elitism. Fetterman loves to take to Twitter to point out Oz’s latest blunders and insulation from everyday voters:

And now the Democratic Party is joining in. Specifically, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer‘s affiliated Senate Majority PAC is launching a multi-million dollar ad buy targeting Dr. Oz for his drug company connections and hawking of “fake miracle cures” on TV. These Democratic attacks should pair well with Fetterman’s tweets.

It is an old political axiom that one should stand back when one’s opponent is destroying himself. Here, however, it seems only fitting for Lt. Gov. Fetterman and the Democratic Party to join in and help.
