Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Friday that he will give $18 million to the Democratic National Committee for the party’s battleground state elections in November. While this is not everything that Bloomberg spoke about when he first ran for president last November, i.e., that if he dropped out of the presidential race, he would form a super PAC and make his campaign field workers available to help the democrats and defeat Donald Trump, the $18 million is still a very generous donation that should help a lot. Indeed, right now, it can be said that Bloomberg is being a better Democrat than Bernie Sanders. Let’s compare:
Mike Bloomberg
–Has withdrawn from the presidential race and has endorsed presumptive nominee Joe Biden.
–Ran hard-hitting ads against Donald Trump even when he was still running for the Democratic presidential nomination.
–Has pledged $18 million to help Democratic candidates and the Democratic Party in the 2020 elections.
–Has donated many millions to causes near and dear to Democrats’ hearts, such as the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, sustainable fishing and coral reef protection, research on ALS disease, and more.
Bernie Sanders
–Has attacked the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates for the past five years.
–His campaign officials and spokespeople have been even worse in attacking Democrats and being divisive.
—Continues to praise brutal totalitarian regimes, including Cuba under Fidel Castro and even communist China, which is not only morally repugnant, but politically damaging to the Democrats.
–Refuses to withdraw from the Democratic presidential nomination contest, continues to take money from donors, and continues to take the Democrats’ focus away from our national Coronavirus emergency, even though, mathematically and otherwise, his candidacy is effectively over.
Indeed, one could argue that even Tulsi Gabbard, the favorite of Vladimir Putin, is being a better Democrat than Bernie Sanders right now.
