Progressive New Year’s resolutions

In 2013, we saw too many instances of the Republican-Corporate-Media iron triangle pushing stories containing big lies about the Affordable Care Act, Benghazi, and even President Obama‘s rather minimal vacation time. If you’re as sick of these phony stories as we are, then all of us need to make some New Year’s resolutions to try to defeat them. In 2014, we resolve to:

–Not wait for conservatives to drive the political agenda with their fake issues, but rather, go on offense with our real issues, such as raising the federal minimum wage, combating global warming, promoting clean energy and others.

–Not use the term “Obamacare,” even if the White House and the Democratic Party use it. “Obamacare” was designed as a derogatory term that invokes the unpopular idea of a Big Government Nanny State. “The Affordable Care Act” is both an accurate name and a complimentary term.

–Not make political arguments in long paragraphs with too many mind-numbing facts and charts. Rather, let’s mix in short clipped messages that hit right in the gut, and convey just as much information, such as the “Republican War on Women,” the “GOP Shutdown,” the “GOP Civil War” and the “GOP Death Spiral.”

Repeat our talking points for maximum effect.

–Send around video and audio that proves our points and catches conservatives in their natural state as liars, hypocrites, or mean-spirited Grinches. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is even better.

–Have civil disagreements on our side, rather than civil wars. As the 2016 Presidential primaries draw closer, progressives and Democrats will no doubt have deep disagreements. Let’s keep them spirited but respectful, and leave the ugly intra-party character assassinations to the Republicans.

–Get out and vote, and encourage our like-minded friends and family members to vote, even in those off-year elections. Let’s not have a repeat of the 2010 elections.

–Most importantly, in 2014 we resolve to be activists rather than just complainers.
